Two $1,000 Scholarships for Charter School Graduates

Established in 2003, the Jim Alverson Scholarship was funded through a generous donation by the Arizona State Savings and Credit Union. In honor of the commitment and dedication Jim Alverson had for children, their education and the Charter School movement here in Arizona, the Arizona Charter Schools Association has chosen to recognize charter high school graduates with this award. Jim Alverson was the 1st President for the Arizona Charter Schools Association and operated one of the first charter schools in the state.

The purpose of the scholarship is to reward high school seniors graduating from an Arizona Charter School for their commitment to community service and their education and to encourage them to continue to search out opportunities to serve in the community and pursue life-long learning.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

1. Must be senior graduating from an Arizona Charter High School
2. Submit an exemplary portfolio or project that was developed during your high school years
3. Evidence of community service contributions
4. Two letters of recommendation from an adult not related to applicant such as a teacher, community leader, and counselor
5. Personal essay explaining specific community service rendered and its relationship to your education and goals, plans for future contributions to the community, financial need, and life goals for education and career paths. Two pages, typed, double spaced, 12pt font

Schreck Makiling Wright Scholarship
2005-2006
Three $500 Scholarships for Charter School Graduates

Established in the 2005 academic school year, the Schreck Makiling Wright Scholarship was funded through a generous donation by the Superintendent, the Principal and a teacher of Academy with Community Partners. The purpose of the scholarship is to reward high school seniors graduating from Academy with Community Partners High School for their commitment to community service, education and to encourage life-long learning.

PROCEDURES
Completed applications that meet the above criteria and are received by the May 5th deadline will be reviewed by the scholarship committee. The three students selected to receive a $500 scholarship will be notified by the end of May 2006. Students not selected will be notified shortly thereafter.
